Piano tuning runs in my family.
My great-grandfather played the organ for the silent pictures.
When cinema sound came in, he lost his job and started to tune and repair organs and pianos for a living.
My grandfather was a music teacher and then school headmaster.
My father, Marcus Roberts, has been tuning pianos for about 30 years, and is a member of the Piano Tuner's Association.
Now he specialises in the sale and restoration of high quality pianos including Steinway,
Bechstein, Blüthner, Bösendorfer, Grotrian Steinweg, the best models of Yamaha, and the new Wendl & Lung pianos.
You can browse his stock at
www.robertspianos.com.
I've been tuning pianos since I was 16, and was doing occasional adjustment/repair jobs since I was 12.
I was previously an employee of
Roberts Pianos of Oxford both out on the road doing tuning/repairs and technical work in the piano workshop.
I live in SW1 London now, where I'm building up a new client base.
I visit people's homes, schools, colleges, institutions, theatres and concert halls,
working on everything from early Victorian instruments to brand new pianos, and from the most basic uprights to the ultimate in concert grands.
